Are voice calls and voice chat conversations archived by internet companies?
November 7, 2009 // Posted in Security (Tags: Internet Fraud, Predator, Skype, Uncle Sam) | 1 Comment
I have a family member that wants to talk about some sensitive information and the only way we can talk is over VoIP using a chat program like msn or skype.
Is it safe?
Will any predator (or Uncle Sam, even…?) be able to get a hold of this information later?
Could someone at the internet provider company?
And, how long does it stay archived, if so?
Sorry for being paranoid…. just hearing about so much internet fraud and theft has me naturally worried…

Can someone recommend the best anti-spam approach and email service/software?
July 21, 2009 // Posted in Security (Tags: Email Software, False Positives, Service Software, Spam Email) | 1 Comment
I was a user of Mailshell’s paid consumer service, which they are discontinuing at the end of this month. The feature i liked best was the disposable email addresses. Being able to just bounce all email from an address once it had been sold was the most effective to me. I never saw any spam and just turned off addresses once spammers got hold of addresses from sometimes legitimate well meaning companies. I never had to worry about false positives or asking people i wanted to correspond with to register.
Maybe the detection technology has improved over the years?
I am aware of four technologies; filters, blacklists, registrations, and disposable addresses.
Anyone want to recommend a best replacement for me? I’m willing to pay for the service. It has to be stable (no service outages), and professional (no advertising added to the email, etc.
I found this list;

Spam Email Verification: Is there software to require email senders to type a security code before email sent?
July 13, 2009 // Posted in Security (Tags: Automatic Reply, Discretion, Security Code, Spam Email) | 2 Comments
I want software (or plugin for Outlook/Entourage) to allow me to control spam emails. I’d like to be able to add senders to an approved list. If the sender is not on the approved list, they receive an automatic “reply email” requesting that they type in a verification code shown in a graphic. This allows the original message to be received but blocks automatic senders who don’t reply with the verification code. Sender may still be added to a blocked list at the user’s discretion.
