Since computers are identified by the local connection network in order to access the Internet, can they also be located ? Are voice calls and voice chat conversations archived by internet companies?

November 7, 2009 // Posted in Security (Tags: , , , ) |  1 Comment

I have a family member that wants to talk about some sensitive information and the only way we can talk is over VoIP using a chat program like msn or skype.
Is it safe?
Will any predator (or Uncle Sam, even…?) be able to get a hold of this information later?
Could someone at the internet provider company?
And, how long does it stay archived, if so?

Sorry for being paranoid…. just hearing about so much internet fraud and theft has me naturally worried…
